The project is sited in “Analipsis”, the outskirts of Naoussa, on the island of Paros.
Τhe architectural concept emerges at the sight of two marble blocks reflecting the Mediterranean light. Vertical planes of varied height, stand between and unfold around the blocks, generating numerous spatial configurations. These mental schemes, closely linked to the landscape and its spirit, draw on the lessons of the Cycladic countryside, and reinterprete the captivating, abundant experience associated with its geometry and rhythm.
In this context, the dialogue between the textured cubes and the vertical planes, -by means of their playful “irregularity”- promote harmony, purity and plasticity; features that we find in vernacular architecture as a result of the ideal relationship between man and nature.
The varied free-standing courtyard walls rising amidst lush planting and pools, yet in continuity with the buildings, define and modulate outdoor space, shape seating areas and walks, support pergolas, shield the surrounding yards, affect the microclimate and the degree of communication. They grade the tenants’ exposure so as to establish privacy, whilst every part of the interior is open to nature and the landscape.
The water element, the outdoor sculptures, the paved surfaces and planted areas that host the colours of the Mediterranean garden, create an atmosphere of relaxation and promote a rich sensory experience with filtered light, reflections, smells and sounds. In this way, Rocher Blanc brings together the setting and the poetics of Mediterranean living, that feel timeless and ‘familiar’.
