The KAGE Residence is a four-storey apartment building located in the area of Hymettus of Athens aiming to redefine the concept of the Athenian apartment building. The design is based on a strict geometric approach, with the grid serving as the main compositional element that influences both the overall massing and individual architectural details. This spatial organization is expressed through a focus on geometric clarity and the strong distinction between different levels of the building.
The composition of the residence follows the traditional architectural trilogy: the “base,” the “trunk,” and the “crown.” The base, which recedes slightly, houses the entrance and connects the interior with the exterior public space, while the trunk consists of the typical residential floors. The crown is completed by the characteristic white sloped roof, which defines the building and adds an imposing character.
The facades are organized according to the grid principle, dividing them into three zones with different materials and functions. The first zone, the stairwell, incorporates translucent blocks, which create a sense of lightness and transparency. The second zone, the balconies, emphasizes contrast through metallic panels, while the third zone, with the projecting bay windows made of exposed concrete, brings a more austere, industrial character, offering a striking visual differentiation.

The choice of materials and color tones has been made with great care, focusing on the creation of a clean and dynamic architectural ensemble. Exposed concrete, white plaster, and dark gray metal details enhance the relationships of full and void, while also highlighting the interplay of light and shadow that characterizes the project. These contrasts and dynamic surface relationships inspired the name of the project, “KAGE,” which evokes the sensation of shadow.
The building program includes a luxurious residence with a private open space, two typical apartments, and a duplex that extends to the accessible rooftop, offering the residents a unique sense of privacy and connection to the surrounding environment.
The KAGE Residence represents an example of contemporary architecture that incorporates both the traditional values of the Athenian apartment building and the need for functionality and aesthetic quality in a modern urban context.
